 Absentee Ballots

Absentee ballots are available for registered voters who will be out of town on Election Day, are over 60 years of age, physically disabled, or precinct workers.

Absentee ballots may not be mailed more than 40 days (September 26, 2008) nor less than 5 days (October 31, 2008) prior to an election.  The returned ballot will need to be postmarked prior to Election Day and received by the Clerk’s office within 14 days after the date of the election, to be counted.

By Mail

Voters should contact the McHenry County Clerk’s office at 815-334-4242 to request an absentee ballot application or email www.co.mchenry.il.us/common/countyDpt/Countyclerk  .  The Clerk’s office will need the voter’s name, residence address and date of birth for verification purposes.  A phone number will be helpful, if the Clerk’s office needs to contact you for additional information.  The Clerk’s office will also need to know the address that you want the application mailed to.  Once you receive your application for an absentee ballot, you will need to complete the application, sign it and return said application to the County Clerk’s office, for your absentee ballot.  Absentee ballots may not be mailed more than 40 days nor less than 5 days prior to an election.

In Person

All of the above steps may also be done in person.  The specified voter, not a representative, spouse, or parent may pick-up the ballot if this step is not done by mail.  Once the ballots are available on September 26, 2008, all the steps can be done while the person waits in the Business Office.
