Chairman’s Column

By HEDC Chairman Roger Lehmann

Good For The Community

Harvard has made a lot of progress as a community. New businesses are coming to town and our downtown district is getting a fresh new look. Our industrial park is expanding and new jobs are being created. New retail stores are opening and Harvard residents have more places to shop than ever before.

Harvard is becoming an even better place to live and work. We’re a community with a future, and everyone is working to make sure that it’s a bright one.

On November 4, District 50 will ask voters to approve a referendum to construct and equip a new elementary school to house 1,000 students. Building this school would reduce congestion in Harvard’s existing schools and improve the quality of education for students.

The Evelyn Herley Trust has said that it will donate a 22-acre site for the school if the referendum is approved by voters. According to the referendum committee, the cost of a ‘yes’ vote for the owner of a home valued at $180,000 would be $82.50 a year.

An education lasts forever. When we invest in the future of our students, we are investing in the future of our community. The Harvard EDC supports the District 50 referendum and asks that you do the same. Strong schools are important to a strong economy. Please vote yes on November 4.
